Things to Come: A New Blog Series, a Research Project, and a Return to Blogging

I admit, it has been way too long since my last post on here. Life gets busy and unfortunately enjoyable hobbies often get pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. Fortunately, my passion for Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. is as strong as ever and my research and collecting has not slowed down in any way. My blog, on the other hand, got a bit abandoned but the ideas have not slowed down, luckily. I find myself at a place in life that has allowed me to organize my thoughts and revive my blog. And I am holding myself accountable by planning regular posts and maybe, just maybe, purchasing my domain name.

So here’s what is to come!

I have started working on a monthly (or biweekly) blog series highlighting every single film that Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. starred in. The working title of this series is “Fairbanks at the Movies”. It begins with his first starring role in Stephen Steps Out (1923) and will end with his last starring role in Ghost Story (1981). That’s a total of roughly 75 movies and at one per month or even bi-weekly, a project that has the potential to last a good while! I have already begun working on these posts and look forward to sharing them.

My second major project that will be covered on my blog is exploring Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.’s television appearances. This includes covering everything from his Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Presents… series to talk shows to game shows. I am doing what I can to create a master list that has episode titles, dates, and where to watch them. Be sure to check out my updated (and ongoing) Television section.

Lastly, while this blog is dedicated primarily to the life and career of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., I will still indulge my love of classic film in occasional posts or blogathons that may be unrelated directly to Fairbanks. I haven’t done a blogathon since 2017! I’m excited to get back into the swing of things.

In the meantime, I’ve compiled a list of upcoming Fairbanks movies on Turner Classic Movies and availability of Fairbanks movies on the Criterion Channel and Amazon Prime. And until I publish my next post, please, do read by last post which was a review of the recently re-published book “The Fourth Musketeer” by Letitia Fairbanks!

Turner Classic Movies

As part of TCM’s Summer Under the Stars salute to Maureen O’Hara, Sinbad, the Sailor (1947) will be shown on August 17th at 2:45pm CST.

Be sure to tune in!

Criterion Channel

Currently, on the Criterion Channel you can watch Stella Dallas (1925) and The Rise of Catherine the Great (1934). The copy of Stella Dallas (1925) doesn’t have a score so I used a score of another silent drama while I watched it. It’s always better when the score is written for the film but I preferred to have music rather than none at all. Stella Dallas (1925) was the role that kickstarted his career after an unsuccessful entry in 1923. He’s just sixteen and had to wear a fake mustache for the wedding scene!

View the Criterion Channel online.

Amazon Prime

This list of Fairbanks movies on Amazon Prime only includes the ones that are free with a subscription. Quite a few titles are available to buy or rent as well.

  • Party Girl (1930)
  • The Stolen Jools (1931)
  • The Rage of Paris (1938)
  • Mr. Drake’s Duck (1951)
